The classification of building related sitework is an integral and key part of the ASTM UNIFORMAT Standard E1557. It provides all project stakeholders with a common point of agreement on sitework elements. The classification was designed to meet the following requirements:
UNIFORMAT II is not intended to classify elements of major civil works. Buildings, however, are usually accompanied by roads, utilities, parking areas, and other nonbuilding features. The UNIFORMAT II classification of building related sitework is provided exclusively for buildings construction support so users don't need multiple elemental classifications for what is primarily a buildings project.
About UNIFORMAT IIThe ASTM E1557 "Standard Classification for Building Elements and Related Sitework - UNIFORMAT II" provides a common structure linking the building program, specifications, and estimates. Its integration in the design process results in improved communications and coordination among all project participants, an accelerated design, and significantly increased productivity. The classification provides the Project Manager with an essential tool to control project scope, cost, time and quality. Return to the UNIFORMAT II page from
