Building Construction Management
Building Construction Management is an intensive, hands-on course showing participants practical ways to apply UNIFORMAT II to any type of building construction project.
This one-day offline course, delivered in a traditional classroom environment, introduces the use of the ASTM UNIFORMAT II E1557 standard for building construction management.
Course Overview
This intensive, hands-on course in building construction management shows participants practical ways to apply UNIFORMAT II to any type of building construction project. The content is based on ASTM Standard E 1557-96, Standard Classification for Building Elements and Related Sitework - UNIFORMAT II. Participants learn how to apply the standard and how to use it as an innovative design management tool to link programs, specifications and estimates.
Although "Building Construction Management" is not a course on elemental estimating, participants do workshop exercises using simple UNIFORMAT II estimating software, which they get to keep as part of the course fees.
All attendees receive a comprehensive workbook with these powerful, learning-oriented components:
- a clear statement of the learning objectives of the course, so that a tough-minded, business focus prevails throughout the day
- a copy of ALL the pages of the material making up the instructor's presentation, which is done using the latest in A/V aids
- prepared forms that the attendees use to structure the workshop exercises and retain the maximum possible for later application on the job
- valuable reference materials culled from a number of sources
Business Issues
ASTM Standard E 1557-96 "Standard Classification for Building Elements and Related Sitework - UNIFORMAT II" was promulgated in 1993, and an alphanumeric designation of elements was balloted on and approved in 1996. This innovative standard is intended to improve building construction management in building projects by harmonizing the flow of communications among project team players from the programming to the construction phase.
Use of the UNIFORMAT II standard is recommended by the Design-Build Institute of America and the Construction Specification Institute. As an ASTM standard, it is a now a mandatory requirement for all US federal construction projects.

Hands-on Exercises
In these hands-on exercises, attendees use what they have learned and test it out using simple UNIFORMAT II software. They can then take what they've learned in these exercises and apply it directly on the job.
- UNIFORMAT II Communications. Exercises to reinforce the concept and benefits of consistency in communications throughout all phases of a project.
- UNIFORMAT II UF2 Software. Exercises to help participants understand how the software streamlines communications.
Instructor
